Email: "Sylvia Browne show on June 22"

A woman who attended the same Excalibur show that I did shares her thoughts.

Background

On June 22 2008, I attended a Sylvia Browne performance at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Since then, I have since received emails from a few others who were in attendance, and will be sharing them here, if the authors grant permission to do so.

This article discusses an email from a woman who is the first to grant me permission to do so.

The Email

Here - with the author's permission - is that email, with my comments inserted. As with all emails I publish here, it should be noted that this is simply one person's opinion.

Hi. Just wanted to let you know I was at the Sylvia Browne showing on June 22nd also!

At first I thought it was all a hoax. You being last in line made it look like it was set up to be part of the entertainment. But I could tell by the look on your face that it was a shock to you for her to start putting you down.

I had read your blog and almost didn't get tickets but I like to tell myself that there are really people out there that are physic and I had seen Sylvia on Montel several times.

In a subsequent email, this woman told me that she had gone to see the show in spite of having read some of this site in hopes of proving this site wrong about Browne.

This wasn't like any of the shows on Montel, at least some people acted like she got some things right on television, at her showing I saw, she didn't seem to give an answer that anyone could relate to.

I was the one who said I suffered from depression and medications don't work. She mentioned my blood sugar and cutting down on my carbohydrates. My husband was behind me and said he had plenty of money to retire on but was wondering if he should stop working.....she told him "No" and something to the effect of.... retiring and not doing anything wasn't good.

When she described people that had passed on or people that the women who asked about finding the love of their life she described the actual people she was talking to most the time or the one's they would meet would have red hair. The one who was told her future job would be in teaching...did you see her face, she looked as if she was told she would be president or something.

You failed to talk about the lady who didn't have a question and just wanted Sylvia to tell her something....Sylvia was so rude to her, she could of even told her future looked bright or anything rather than acted like she offended her by asking such a dumb question Sylvia just turned her head and asked the next person for their quesion! She could of made up something rather than wasted that ladies money.

I had forgotten about this, and will discuss it in more detail below.

If she was psychic I'd think she would of told people that they had heath problems or something about their lives. What about the part where she said that people would call her son and say they wished it was his mom they could talk to...it was like she wanted to tell "us" as a whole that we were rude...and for us to ask only one question and scold some people for asking more than one.

I really thought her show would of been sold out, and I expected a lot more for my $137.50! I told my husband after the show that I could of done as good as she did!

I bought a book for Sylvia to sign to give to my daughter and she signed it in between taking pictures with people. I didn't stand near her as she signed it, she didn't even look to see who she was signing it for, it was just pushed over by her and when she saw it, she picked it up signed it and pushed it back.

Perhaps Browne would have been more personable, had she not just spoken with me.

Of course she mentioned one of her books on ebay that sold for $2,000....do you think that helped the sell of the books that night? I usually keep an open mind about things, but this showing was all fake to me and such a disappointment.

The Lady Without a Question

The incident about the "lady who didn't have a question" mentioned in the email merits a little discussion here.

As I recall, the woman said something like "Hi Sylvia. I don't have a question, but was wondering if there is anything you could tell me?"

Browne's response was dismissive and rude. I do not recall precisely what she said, but she then immediately turned away, to the person at the other microphone, and the questionless woman shrugged sheepishly and walked back to her seat.

If Sylvia Browne was truly psychic, I would think she would have been able to say something to this woman, even without a question. Something like "Your husband needs to be careful driving to work." or "Tell your son to stay out of the garage next week, or he will get bitten by a black widow." or "Your mother says 'hello' from The Other Side." or "Your boss will offer you a raise later this month."

But, if she is not really psychic, trying guesses such as these is risky. What if the woman wasn't married, or was, but her husband was unemployed? What if she had no son? What if her mother was still alive? What if the woman was self-employed, and had no boss? A fraudulent psychic would rarely make guesses such as these without some input first, such as the person asking about their husband, son, mother or job.

Even if Browne is, as I believe, a fraudulent psychic, she could have come up with something for this woman, who had, after all, paid good money to be able to speak with her. Even something general like "Things are looking up for you by the end of the year."

Instead, she chose to be rude and dismissive. Why?

Perhaps - and this is purely speculation on my part - knowing that there were skeptics in the audience (including me), Browne thought this woman could be one as well, and thought the non-question was an attempt to trip her up.

Or perhaps she was just indignant that the woman was not "playing by the rules," and Browne is always this rude and abrupt with someone without a question for her.

Only Browne knows.

Analysis

The email highlights something I neglected to discuss in my article about that afternoon.

As she says, the people got very little for their money, even if you classify Browne as "entertainment" (which I do not), there was very little which could even qualify as that.

The audience got to listen to ten minutes or so of Browne hawking her books, cruises, lectures, phone readings and such, followed by another fifteen minutes or so of her explaining such things as the difference between ghosts and spirits (which, if anyone was already a fan or follower of Browne, they likely already knew), followed by being allowed to ask one question.

Indeed, someone deserves to "expect a lot more" for $137.50.

Conclusion

My thanks to this woman for writing, and for sharing her thoughts on that afternoon, and for letting me share them with readers of this site.
